Tea, tokes, and #trashart:

Tea, tokes, and #trashart

Join aprildoodles at Bu Tea Den for a chill hang where we sip tea, snack, and make playful collage art from the materials that collect around our homes. Junk mail, shipping materials, packaging, and more. Tear through trash, play with color, pattern, and texture, then glue down what you like.

This edition falls on the spring equinox, a moment of balance, renewal, and bloom. We’re marking the season (and Women’s History Month) with a soundtrack by Tocaya: a DJ and cultural anthropologist whose earth-based electronic sets weave together nature sounds, Latin American rhythms, and the textures of languages from Spanish to Quechua.

Sunday afternoons in Los Angeles. Low light, shared tables, good music in the background, and a relaxed pace. Come to make something simple, surprising, and personal.

About the artist: aprildoodles

I created #trashart out of a desire to consume less and do more with the waste that I create in my daily life. I use a mix of shipping materials, packaging and other pieces of ephemera that I have been collecting over time. #trashart is a way to look at impact, showcase the afterlife of discarded things, and find meaning in what so many would consider waste.

About the DJ: Tocaya is a cultural anthropologist and DJ whose earth-based electronic sets draw from Latin American rhythms, the sounds of nature, and languages from Spanish and Portuguese to Quechua, the language of the Incas.
