The Mahjong Salon of Suzie Wong
For one afternoon the Den runs like an old Hong Kong mahjong parlor.
Sunday, June 28th | 3 to 6pm.
$45 early bird, $55 general.
Advance RSVP required. No walk-ins.
For one afternoon, the Den turns into the Mahjong Salon of Suzie Wong.
It takes its cue from the parlors and tea houses of old Hong Kong, where people sat down with strangers, played for hours, and stayed long after the tea went cold.
Come learn the game or pull up to an open table. Find out your TCM constitution. Drink tea all afternoon, eat well, and move between tables and conversations at your own pace. Come alone or bring people.
Mahjong
Janet teaches the fundamentals if you've never played. Open tables for everyone else. New and seasoned both welcome.
Your TCM constitution
Elaine runs an interactive assessment drawn from Traditional Chinese Medicine: where your body sits and how to bring it back into balance. Personalized herbal recommendations and herbs available to take home for anyone who wants to go further.
Tea and snacks
Tea poured throughout. Each guest gets a tea egg, walnut-stuffed jujubes, and black sesame soup, the kind of food that comes out at a Chinese tea house or a family table.
The room
Conversation cards on the tables. Samples from our featured salon partners, Moonies and Elevar Wellness. Or just find a seat and stay.
The Installation
Bu Tea Den is the permanent home of Paisley ID. The AFTMs (Automated Fortune Telling Machines) are repurposed ATMs that use numerology and chakra theory to generate a personalized fortune. Worth the visit on its own. Bring someone who hasn't seen it.
Address sent upon booking. Warehouse building, side door by the loading dock.
